Our History

Service Master was founded in 1929 as a moth-proofing company by Marion E. Wade, a former minor league baseball player. Wade operated his new business out of his home, had a strong personal faith, and viewed individual employees and customers as worthy of dignity and respect.

Incorporated in 1947, the company expanded its offerings to include carpet cleaning in 1952, establishing one of America’s first franchise businesses. In 1962, the company took its expertise to the health care arena and was a pioneer in third -party outsourcing. In 1980, Service Master entered the education market and expanded its commercial services.

In the 1980s, Service Master built on its original franchise business to form a network of high-quality branch – and franchise-based service companies – including Terminix, TruGreen, and Merry Maids – and other category-leading service brands, including American Home Shield.

Service Master of Greater Pittsburgh has been serving homes and businesses in the Western Pennsylvania Area since 1955. In 1981 John Samek along with two partners purchased and reopened Service Master in his garage in Penn Hills. The business expanded to an office in Penn Hills and then moved quickly to larger warehouse and office facilities in Oakmont. Service Master itself experienced the devastating effects of fire damage, as it’s shared office and warehouse facility was completely damaged by fire as a result of a holiday party in a neighboring business. We were blessed after 3 months in cold unheated trailers to move into our new facility on Allegheny Avenue in Oakmont.

We have responded to disaster needs locally and regionally as well as aiding in disaster recovery efforts after large storms in Florida, New Jersey, Louisiana, Texas, Maryland, and Michigan. We have expanded our Residential and Commercial Cleaning Division to include a variety of specialty services such as Healthy Home Cleaning, Commercial Environmental Services in addition to our traditional interior maintenance cleaning services.

Who We Are

We are the oldest and largest of the Service Master Restore Franchisees located in Western Pennsylvania. We have over 50 full time employees that provide specialty cleaning, property restoration and repair services to residential, commercial and industrial customers.

We are an industry leader providing continuing education accredited courses to insurance, real estate and health care agencies related to insurance restoration services, property maintenance and environmental cleaning.

We are committed to providing world class service to our customer’s and clients where and when they need us.

We are problem solvers 24 hours a day 365 days a year we are ready to address the needs of homes, businesses and their occupants to provide needed services to allow them to maintain, restore and rebuild their environments.
